USPTO Goods and Services Classification

In a USPTO Class search, the default is now the radio button labeled Government and CDNameSearch, instead of Government.

Using the CDNameSearch Nice classes for goods and services in addition to the USPTO classes is a more cautious search that will usually return more results. Our studies have found that using only the USPTO Nice classes sometimes fails to find under-classified or improperly classified marks, especially for marks before advertisement. The USPTO has not provided consistent classes, having switched to the newer eighth edition in January 2001 without re-classifying older marks. We have classified all USPTO marks with the eighth edition of the Nice classification codes (classes 1-45).

You may use only the classes provided by the USPTO by choosing the radio button labeled Government.
